A Specialist Worktop Fitter Sussex you Can Rely On

Worktop Fitter Sussex (The Worktop Fitter)  is a professional worktop fitting service with years of experience. Over the years, we’ve become renowned for fitting all types of worktops perfectly in all kinds of kitchens. However, we don’t offer to fit for Quartz or Granite worktops as stones require a different set of tools and skill set.

We specialise in worktop installation and fitting rather than worktop supply and carpentry. This narrowed focus allows us to focus on fitting your worktop perfectly. However, we advise clients on types of worktops for their budget and the best place to buy them.

If you choose The Worktop Fitter, we’ll arrive with the best professional equipment that allows us to create those seamless joins between each worktop surface every time. No scuffs and no rough edges or joins. Just perfect! This is the real skill in the worktop installation trade that we take great pride in.

Workop Information and Advice

Standard laminate worktops are the most popular, cost-effective, and durable option for a busy family kitchen. They come in thousands of designs—including amazing replicas of wood, concrete, and stone—and are completely maintenance-free.

While they are highly practical, standard laminates require absolute precision during installation. A poorly cut joint will allow moisture to seep in, which will quickly cause the core to swell and blow. To prevent this, they require a professional mason mitre join using specialist jigs and heavy-duty routers to pull the seam together so neatly and tight enough that the water cant get in.

Unlike compact laminate, standard laminate is 38mm (or 22mm) thick, has a wood-particle core, and cannot be used with undermounted sinks or carved drainer grooves.

Compact laminate is a specialist composite worktop and not for the DIY installer as its very difficult to cut and definitely requires an experienced hand.

There are many makes, models and colour of compact laminate but ultimately they are all very similar, 12mm in thickness and doesn’t really matter which one you choose, just go for the one you like the most.

This is a great worktop as its totally waterproof and durable and can be used with undermounted sinks.   You can also cut drainer grooves in the worktop as well to give that next level look.  Raw edges can also be polished.

No maintenance required.

Downsides – is not as repairable as say acrylic worktops as it cannot be sanded and must be stored correctly before being installed otherwise it will cup.

Joins are not seamless unlike Acrylic

These have a similar look to quartz or granite but are lessglossy.  These are usually solid worktops with sizes om thickness of 15mm, 20mm, 25mm and 30mm.  Anything larger in thickness to that will usually have a chipboard core like a standard laminate and i wouldn’t recommend buying those as they dont last as long as a solid acrylic.

These worktops create seamless joins, so you get that unified
slab look for your kitchen, and you can also create undermounted sink cutouts for with drainer grooves for that high end finish.

These worktops are totally waterproof and sand-able which is a great benefit on the future, so in 10 years’ time you can have it re-sanded to look like new again.  Its also totally repairable so if you have a visitor come over and decide to chop vegetables directly on the work surface, which has happened recently, you can call me out and I can put it back to new again.

Downsides, Acrylics are mostly expensive, but there are cheap options, Metis being one of them and thats available from Screwfix.  This would be my personal choice over compact laminate as its similar in price, but a much better product..

Solid wood worktops—like Oak, Walnut, and Iroko—bring an unmatched warmth, character, and luxury to a kitchen. They look incredible, are highly durable, and unlike laminate, they can be sanded down and repaired back to brand-new condition if they ever get scratched or marked.

However, wood is a living material that breathes. It constantly expands and contracts with the temperature and humidity in your home. If it isn’t installed using specialist slotted expansion brackets, or if raw cuts around sinks aren’t sealed perfectly against water, the timber will inevitably warp, cup, or split. Fitting solid wood requires traditional carpentry skills and an expert hand to ensure it stays flat and beautiful for years to come.

Downsides – Requires regular oiling and maintenance to protect the timber, can be susceptible to water damage if neglected, and joins are not completely seamless like acrylics.
